The surgeon sat beside the boy\u2019s bed; the boy\u2019s parents sat across from him. \u201cTomorrow morning,\u201d the surgeon began, \u201cI\u2019ll open up your heart\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll find Jesus there,\u201d the boy interrupted.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The surgeon looked up, annoyed. \u201cI\u2019ll cut your heart open,\u201d he continued, \u201cto see how much damage has been done\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBut when you open up my heart, you\u2019ll find Jesus in there.\u201d The surgeon looked to the parents, who sat quietly.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I see how much damage has been done, I\u2019ll sew your heart and chest back up and I\u2019ll plan what to do next.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBut you\u2019ll find Jesus in my heart. The Bible says He lives there. The hymns all say He lives there. You\u2019ll find Him in my heart.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The surgeon had had enough. \u201cI\u2019ll tell you what I\u2019ll find in your heart. I\u2019ll find damaged muscle, low blood supply, and weakened vessels. And I\u2019ll find out if I can make you well.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll find Jesus there too. He lives there.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The surgeon left. The surgeon sat in his office, recording his notes from the surgery: \u201c\u2026damaged aorta, damaged pulmonary vein, widespread muscle degeneration. No hope for transplant, no hope for cure. Therapy: painkillers and bed rest. Prognosis:\u201d here he paused, \u201cdeath within one year.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

He stopped the recorder, but there was more to be said. \u201cWhy?\u201d he asked aloud.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy did You do this? You\u2019ve put him here; You\u2019ve put him in this pain; and You\u2019ve cursed him to an early death. Why?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lord answered and said, \u201cThe boy, My lamb, was not meant for your flock for long, for he is a part of My flock, and will forever be. Here, in My flock, he will feel no pain, and will be comforted as you cannot imagine. His parents will one day join him here, and they will know peace, and My flock will continue to grow.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The surgeon\u2019s tears were hot, but his anger was hotter. \u201cYou created that boy, and You created that heart. He\u2019ll be dead in months. Why?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lord answered,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe boy, My lamb, shall return to My flock, for he has done his duty: I did not put My lamb with your flock to lose him, but to retrieve another lost lamb.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The surgeon wept.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The surgeon sat beside the boy\u2019s bed; the boy\u2019s parents sat across from him. The boy awoke and whispered, \u201cDid you cut open my heart?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d said the surgeon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat did you find?\u201d asked the boy.<\/strong><\/p>\n
